good eats!

this morning when i arrived at TRI shortly after 9 AM there were two nice surprises waiting for me ~ a prime parking spot right out front AND dad and mary (one of his caregivers) waiting for me in the lobby.

dad had not had a good night but we visited and then when mom arrived about 11 AM we bundled up for a little jailbreak time at a tim horton's in the 'hood.

he got a little upset as we were heading back because he couldn't hold the door open for mom ~ i needed her to hold it open for us as i wheeled him out....but as president obama would say, i tried to use it as a teachable moment and remind dad that this is why we're at TRI working hard on his rehab. so he can once again hold the door open for his lady....

he did hold mom's hand as I pushed him back up university avenue and didn't fuss as we returned to the 5th and his lunch.

this afternoon while mom and i were tending to the "honey do" list, nancy and charles kennedy and bob stevens visited. poor mr stevens got the short end of the stick as dad napped through his visit....

then, in celebration of putting week 5 to bed, ekkehard herling delivered a york club dinner specially prepared by chef jason for dad. a definite treat that lifted his spirits....

as mom and i left to join charles and nancy for a light supper, dad was pouring over an advance copy of the club's centennial book with great delight. i hope when i'm back in two weeks we can take him up to the club for lunch....

i return to WDC tomorrow night, judy and jean philippe (mom's sister and brother-in-law) arrive on tuesday and then alex, kim, the doodlebug and the beast arrive on friday....

so mom is going to have lots of support this week ~ and can hopefully recharge a bit.
